NORTH AMERICAN POLICE WORK DOG ASSOCIATION

             2008 NATIONAL WORKSHOP COMMITTEE

The North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) will be holding the 2008 National Workshop in the Indianapolis area.  Many of the dedicated officers must use vacation time to attend.  K-9 Officers and their families travel from all over the United States and abroad to attend this workshop.  In an effort to help these families NAPWDA plans various family trips and functions throughout the week.

NAPWDA is a family-oriented organization.

NAPWDA was formed in 1977 and is composed of law enforcement officers throughout the United States and several other countries. Our mission is that we are Dedicated to Assisting Police Work Dog Teams Throughout the World.

The North American Police Work Dog Association strives to enhance the use of police work dogs by law enforcement agencies through continuing education in the form of local, state, and national workshops, held periodically throughout the year. Officers and their K9's attend these workshops for problem solving, legal updates, new techniques in various phases of police work dog use and certifications to our standards.

A family picnic always kicks off the week on Sunday afternoon.  NAPWDA has planned family trips to the Indianapolis Zoo, Children’s Museum, Conner Prairie, Circle Center Mall and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  There will be one trip each day while the Officers and their K-9 Partners train.  After a hard day of training most of the officers relax with their families in the Hospitality room.

At present NAPWDA consists of approximately 3400 total members, of which only 150 are Associate members. The remaining members are either current or retired law enforcement officers. There are 55 state coordinators at this time.  Regular Members are full time or retired law enforcement officers (Federal, Military, State, County, or Municipal) involved with police work dogs. Associate Members do not have to be law enforcement officers. They must include a current criminal history record check, be sponsored each year by a Regular Member and approved by the Executive Board. Additionally, Associate Members do not have any vote in this organization and they may attempt to certify with their dog team only in restricted phases.

NAPWDA currently has 23 Accredited Trainers and 54 Accredited Master Trainers. Remember these persons are either current or retired law enforcement K9 officers, not civilian or private citizens in a private business. There are 21 NAPWDA Accredited K-9 Training Areas.

As of the date of this letter, NAPWDA Master Trainers have certified 3800 police work dog teams, of which the accreditation is still currently valid. Since 1983, NAPWDA Master Trainers have certified more than 17,000 K9 teams in the United States.

The purpose of this letter is to tell you about our great association and to ask for your support in bringing this event to the Indianapolis area.  We are in need of donations of all kinds.  Money is always the most sought after.  All monetary donations will be used to pay for Family trips, the family picnic, an awards banquet at the end of the week and for drinks at the training sites.

If you choose, we are also accepting donations for raffle prizes.  This could be anything that we can give away in a drawing.  We also would like to find sponsors for the Hospitality room.  We will have the Hospitality room open six nights.  Sponsorship of one night would include drinks and snacks or food.

NAPWDA is incorporated and we are 501 C 3 not for profit, any donations are tax deductible.

If you have any questions please contact me at 317-670-3914 or visit the NAPWDA web site www.napwda.com.

Sincerely,

Robert Mitchell
